The Plein Air Gallery

The Plein Air Gallery is only open to the public for special shows, such as Memorial Day Weekend in the Garden and the annual Monterey County Studio Tour. This outdoor garden gallery is located just north of the Carmel Highlands General Store (locally known as "the gas station") and across Highway 1. If heading southbound, it's about 1/2 mile past the Point Lobos State Reserve entrance, on the ocean side. Announcements of shows will be posted under the events tab at the top of this page.

The term "plein air" refers to a style of art in which a painting is done on-site, outdoors, viewing the actual scene being painted (en plein air is French for outdoors).
